1907

Maria Montessori opened Casa dei Bambini in Rome. Her method produced the "miracle child" and was soon expanded across  Continental Europe and the rest of the world. (Whitescarver, 2010) 

1911

The first American Montessori school opened in Scarborough, located just outside of New York City. Following this successful endeavor, many other schools across the nation opened, including one led by early American industrialists Alexander Graham Bell and his wife, Maybel Bell. 1960

The Montessori method enjoyed a strong resurgence at the mid-century mark across the United States, and the American Montessori Society (AMS) was born through the leadership of American educator, Dr. Nancy Rambusch. (Whitescarver, 2010)
